we just found think geek while searching for a good digital measuring tape for our home inventory service. buying this one.

and, look what else we found ~ some of the coolest & most practical items we’ve seen in a while.

this wall safe is genius. at only $8-, according to the police, it is better than a locked safe & hundreds cheaper.

more genius. these closed hood jumper cables work through the cigarette lighters between the vehicles.

hide a spare set of your keys by pushing them into the ground ~this hide-a-key looks like a sprinkler head.

and, we just placed this handheld video inspection camera on our wishlist.

be prepared with an emergency kit

this is directly from the american red cross website. in light of the recent disaster in japan, we are urging all of our family, friends & clients to prepare an emergency kit.

at a minimum, have the basic supplies listed below. keep supplies in an easytocarry emergency preparedness kit that you can use at home or take with you in case you must evacuate.

. water ~ one gallon per person, per day (3day supply for evacuation, 2week supply for home)
. food—nonperishable, easytoprepare items (3day supply for evacuation, 2week supply for home)
. flashlight
. battery-powered or handcrank radio (NOAA weather radio, if possible)
. extra batteries
. first aid kit
. medications (7day supply) & medical items
. multipurpose tool
. sanitation & personal hygiene items
. copies of personal documents (medication list & pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies)
. cell phone with chargers
. family and emergency contact information
. extra cash
. emergency blanket
. map(s) of the area

consider the needs of all family members & add supplies to your kit. suggested items to help meet additional needs are:

. medical supplies (hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, cane)
. baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby food, diapers)
. games and activities for children
. pet supplies (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl)
. twoway radios
. extra set of car keys and house keys
. manual can opener

additional supplies to keep at home or in your kit based on the types of disasters common to your area:

. whistle
. n95 or surgical masks
. matches
. rain gear
. towels
. work gloves
. tools/supplies for securing your home
. extra clothing, hat & sturdy shoes
