I am meeting with a new lake norman organization client tomorrow. on the phone, she mentioned that one of her big issues was paper clutter. that is big issue for most of my clients. the challenge for all of us is to have systems in place so that the papers do not overtake us.

if you do not have a home office with a filing cabinet, one of these is essential ~

this one is from the container store, but all the big box office supply stores have some version of this. I’ve had mine for about 12 years now ~ it is silver with a lid, 2 latches & a handle. it looks fine when it is out, which it is at the moment, but 98% of the time it sits on a shelf in my closet. easy to access if I need something or have something to file.

gift wrap organization

it is so important to have a dedicated storage place for all of your gift wrapping supplies & any gifts you purchase way ahead of the event. by keeping everything together in one spot, not only will you be much more efficient, but actually save money by not purchasing the same items over & over & having to toss wrapping paper, bags & other supplies that have become tattered & rendered useless.

tame unruly cords

the problem: “the majority of cords are just not as thoughtful as we would like them to be. instead of staying put when you unplug them, they often make a beeline for the back of the desk, table or nightstand & then on to the floor, leaving you on your hands & knees digging in the dust bunnies to find them & put them back where they belong. mobile phone chargers, laptop power cords, USB cables & ethernet cords can all be troublemakers, so we wanted to design a solution that would tame them all.”

the solution: “pinza teaches your cords to be more considerate & look good doing it. pinzas are cast from solid stainless steel & hand polished. they are incredibly easy to use. slide the black band on the right side off & run your cords through. to adjust the amount of cord in front of the pinza, just pull on the cord. the pinza will rotate up allowing the cord to slide through. when you stop pulling, the pinza will rotate back down, pinning the cord & holding it in place.”

we’ve all heard the adage, “if I fish for you, you eat for a day; if I teach you to fish, you eat for a lifetime”. parents, jennifer & gregory beck, created the fisherkids system to teach their 3 children:

new client’s closet

we will soon be embarking on a closet organization project for a new client who moved into her home last summer, but due to a small child & life’s numerous demands, has never had a chance to really organize it. it is a very generous closet ~ big enough to even get a small bureau in ~ & would be something we could do in a about a day, except for the massive amount of costume jewelry she owns. here are a few pics of the bureau side of it ~

we’ve all seen the shows on oprah about homes that have way too much stuff in them. there are also several cable series on massive amounts of clutter: hoarders on a&e, hoarders: buried alive on tlc, clean house on style network & peter walsh’s enough already on own.

so many people & families, who thrive in an organized & uncluttered spaces, simply lack the time & capabilities to tackle the problem themselves. as the troubled economy improves, it has many craving some more empowerment & the acts of cleaning, organizing & decluttering one’s home can provide that much needed sense of control.

we love “the 10 commandments of hanging” on the site. the only one we are a slightly guilty of non-compliance of is #7 ~ gotta work on that one.

available in 6 colors, clos-ette too’s signature shirt hanger is flocked to prevent slippage & are super skinny, the most efficient way of gaining horizontal closet space. and, they don’t snap like some plastic hangers ~ they are made of super durable composites.
